'Aliwa' (Look out!)

If you are visiting Perth and are yet to experience Aboriginal Theatre a fabulous option for you is the 'Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre'.

Formed in 1993 and located in Subiaco, Yirra Yaakin is Western Australia's only Indigenous Performing Arts Centre. This theatre provides an opportunity for Aboriginal people of the Noongar nation to share their unique and special culture with others via the medium of the performing arts.

Yirra Yaakin is currently preparing for the exciting world premiere season of 'Aliwa' (Look out!). Written by new talent Dallas Winmar and directed by one of Australia's leading Indigenous theatre artists Lynette Narkle,'Aliwa' promises to be a unique and intriguing event to say the least!

'Aliwa' tells the important story of family. The family depicted here spans three generations of indigenous women in Australia. The key themes that come up are the strength, dignity, survival and ultimately triumph of these incredible women.

'Aliwa' provides a unique opportunity for you to stimulate your creative senses and to also learn about some very real and important issues regarding Australia's indigenous culture.

'Aliwa' is suitable for ages 10 and over.  Discounts are available if you become a member of Yirra Yaakin Boola!
