Australia has no endemic true toads. One of the true toads, the cane toad, a giant species native to Central and South America, was introduced to the Queensland sugar cane fields in 1935 to control a pestiferous beetle and has now become a serious pest in its own right.
The Cane Toad, which also is very poisonous, is rapidly spreading along
the East coast. If a Cane Toad should get eaten by for instance a Dingo,
the predator will die.
