You can find these fish, weighing in at more than 60 kilograms, in the areas of the
Great Barrier Reef off Lizard
Island, some 140 nautical miles north of Cairns. Very little is known about these giant fish; they appear to be roving carnivorous fish that live on or near the sea bottom. Like many fish that swim in the horizontal position, the Potato Cod has bulging eyes with powerful focusing lenses. If the water is clear, they have a completely circular view from the horizon above to the flow below.
