F.A.Q:
The tours are run on
partial participation which we believe generates
friendship and conversation, i.e. assisting with
preparation of meals, peeling potatoes and carrots
etc., collecting firewood and maybe filling up some
water buckets. They help with cleaning up e.g..
washing and wiping and also they erect their own tents
after being shown how on the first evening. The driver
does all operations around the fire, mainly for safety
reasons, e.g.. cooking, lighting
etc.
The maximum number of
passengers we normally have in one group is 20 but
this depends on the time of year that you intend to
travel.
Toilets at camp are
either flushing or pit type and either a shower or
swim at night.
Wet weather gear is
not normally required in Cape York, if you wish maybe
you can use a spray jacket as your jumper.
The 9 Day tour’s
plane size depends on what is available at that time,
but normally we use as small a plane as possible e.g.
6 - 10 seats.
The vehicle seats are
padded bucket seats and although we modify our
suspensions and make our vehicles ride as comfortable
as possible, the roads to Cape York can be extremely
corrugated and rough in places.
You may bring your own
sleeping bags if you wish, but we happily supply fresh
laundered sleeping bags at no charge when requested.
We also supply air mattresses with separate blow up
pillow which are far more comfortable than foam, these
are approx. 4 inches (100mm) thick.
Our tours are designed
to show you the best of Cape York without trying to do
too many kilometers per day. Our guides are
chosen for their ability to enjoy their work, besides
the necessary abilities required such as driving,
cooking, good humour etc. These guides are known in
the Cape as the only ones who have people consistently
happy and in this industry a happy tourist is a
satisfied one.
Billy Tea Safaris
normally runs an honesty tin for drinks ( beer, wine,
soft drink ) with any profits going to the Royal
Flying Doctor Service at the end of tour. This keeps
drink prices relative and evenly priced for they are
exorbitantly expensive in Upper Cape York. Water,
cordial, tea and coffee are available with most meals
and if you have any special needs ( food or medical )
please advise us well before departure or when
booking.
As per government
regulations, smoking is not permitted in vehicles.
Ample stops provide time for "smoking breaks"
en route.
