Adelaide

Adelaide is an old-style city in a beautiful setting. Sitting on the eastern shore of the Gulf St Vincent, it is hemmed in by the green Adelaide Hills to the east. Mount Lofty to the east provides an excellent view of this green coastal city with its large leafy trees and fresh parks.Adelaide aerial

Gouger street near the city centre is a multi-cultural experience with its Central Market, funky cafés and fresh produce stalls. For those who enjoy their beach culture to be mixed with all the urban luxuries there is the beachfront suburb of Glenelg with its bustling shops and restaurants. At night you can relax in your own way, whether at an old-style pub or a happening nightclub.

Cultural attractions include the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the Festival Theatre Complex, and the Botanic Gardens, all lined along North Terrace. Both the old and the new Parliament House also lie along this culture-rich street. For a little more history there is the Migration Museum which details the evolution of the state's population. For an even older story there is the Tandaya Aboriginal Cultural Institute where you can learn all about the Aboriginal culture. Most attractions are within easy walking distance of each other, but if you're taking strain, the city has a very adequate public transport system.

If you're shopping for local products try The Jam Factory where a collection of artisans display their creations. The East End Markets are another venue where you should find interesting products to take home.

The Adelaide Arts Festival is held for three weeks in February/March of the even-numbered years. Drama, dance, music, and other live performances are amongst the entertainment on offer. There is also a literary week with speakers from all over the world.

A good place to enjoy superb food and wine is one of the many cafés in Rundle and Gouger Streets.
