Getting around

Take the tram
Melbourne tram at Flinders station Melbourne has one of the largest tram and light-rail networks in the world. The city’s first trams, which were horse-drawn, began operating in 1884 on a suburban line. Cable trams were introduced the following year and Melbourne had its first electric tram in 1889 running on a two-and-a-quarter-mile line from Box Hill to Doncaster.

There are now four types of trams in operation designated W, Z, A and B classes. The Victorian State Government also has a collection of operational trams dating from 1906, either preserved for museum exhibition or available for special occasions.
